four tours in total. mourners turning out for another hero, the bus driver shot to death trying to protect more than 20 children in his care. it happened before a 5-year-old boy was taken hostage. more on that and what authorities are trying to do to end that standoff. and new frenzy surrounding the duchess of cambridge. she's been keeping a low profile during her pregnancy. but the tabloids going goo goo and gaga. we'll show you the pictures in question a little bit later. the shooting death of the most lethal snipe tpher sniper in military history. mark schneider from kxas is at the police station in lancaster, texas where the suspect was taken. mark, what can you tell us? >> yeah, lester, that gun range was chris kyle's second home practically. we're 100 miles east in

lancaster, texas. this is where the suspect is from. he's being held in the police department. already gone before a judge, arraigned on two counts of capital murder. we have some video from the scene on where routh was captured. we're still trying to get more information on him. we know at this point as far as a criminal history, he was convicted of dwi last year. that's all we've got on him. what we are trying to find out is motive and what if any relationship he had with chris kyle and the other victim, chad littlefield. the texas highway patrol is one of the agencies investigating. here's what they say he did right after the murders. >> he traveled back to his residence in lancaster. lancaster police department was able to catch up with him there. they took him into custody without incident after a brief pursuit. >> all right. police tell us they have a long way to go on this investigation. still trying to learn a lot more

about ralph's background. don't know yet if he was in the military or not, what kind of weapon, what kind of gun was used in this crime. we'll be hearing from the sheriff a little later today. so we'll get that information to nbc news when we get it. lester? >> mark schneider from kxas. i traveled to texas last february to meet chris kyle. and we talked about his four tours in iraq as a navy s.e.a.l. and one shot that made him legend ear among fellow snipers. >> i saw an insurgent on top of the roof. i zoomed in on him. i saw he had an rpg. he was trying to hide. about the time i saw he was getting into attack position i decided it was time to take the shot. >> he hit his mark from 2,100 yards or 1.2 miles away. an unheard of distance that stunned even him. >> 2,100 yards. lucky shot? >> extremely lucky shot.

>> most of those he killed never saw him. >> when you're going to war it's definitely not about being fair. every person i killed i have a clear conscious of because they were actively trying to hurt americans or civilians. >> it's so ironic. only to lose his life texas. he leaves behind a wife and two children. his wife talked about the fear of him being overseas and with a navy s.e.a.l. you don't know what they're doing. it's very secretive business. we lost a true american hero. >> our hearts go out the to them. in turkey, police are reportedly questioning 15 people in connection with the killing of a new york city woman there. our chief foreign correspondent is live in istanbul. what police are saying is the 33-year-old won sarai sierra

came for a two-week holiday. it was her first trip outside the united states. she was supposed to come with a girlfriend. the girlfriend backed out. during the trip she was in regular contact with her family. no indication that anything was going wrong. then on january 21st, the day she was supposed to be leaving, she disappeared. she never arrived at the airport. her rented apartment where she was staying here still had her things in it. a closed-circuit television camera showed her walking alone. and then she was gone for two weeks. no one had any idea what happened to her. last night police found her body dumped here the palace very close to the ramparts of the old city. police say she died from a blunt force trauma to the head. family members are trying to find answers, trying to find out

what happened to her. they have not spoken to the media. we are told they are too emotional at this stage. now to the stand justify in alabama. 5-year-old boy spent 110 hours in captivity. gabe gutierrez is following this story in midland city, alabama for us. gabe, good morning. what's the latest? >> lester, the funeral for the bus driver is set for later this afternoon. it comes a day after the local sheriff here publicly thanked the suspect who might have access for television for taking care of our child, a sign of just how sensitive these negotiations have become. >> charles poland was a bus driver who died on the job protecting more than 20 children under his care. saturday night mourners lined up

to pay their respects as the tense standoff dragged on. >> it was just devastating. we wanted it to come to a resolution. we wanted to save that little child. >> the 5-year-old child ethan is still being held in an underground bunker by this man, a man neighbors describe as a loner with deep distrust of government. police are talking through a ventilation pipe and choosing their words carefully. >> i want to thank him for taking care of our child. >> he is allowing toys, potato chips. he grabbed ethan after boarding a school bus and shooting the driver. the chaotic scene still weighing on this small town. he was driving by when he noticed children crying on the side of the road.

he was so stunned he crashed his car. >> we noticed all the kids out there and i realized something serious had to have happened. >> there are new ribbons and prayer vigils every day now. joshua tucker is one of the advisers. >> i want our little warrior in the bunker to get out safe and sound. >> now trapped underground for more than 110 hours. as this standoff drags on, several schools in dale county remain closed until further notice. left senator. >> gabe gutierrez, thanks. president obama heads to minneapolis tomorrow to promote his plan to battle gun violence. it's a photo of him firing a shotgun that is getting all the attention this morning. peter alexander is at the white house with more. good morning. >> good morning. tomorrow marks the first time the president is going on the run road to push for stiffer gun laws. there was a detour in the debate when the president insisted that all the time he shoots skeet at

camp david. these were his words. all the time. his critics were skeptical. and the white house on saturday quickly pushed back trying to put the argument to rest. the white house wanted to silence the skeptics. instead the release of this photo, the president firing a shotgun on the range of camp david on his 51st birthday last summer unleashed a new round of attack from his staunchest critics. nra telling nbc news unone picture does not erase a lifetime of supporting every gun ban and every gun control scheme imaginable. the controversy first exploded last week when the new republic magazine asked if he had ever fired a gun. the president boasted, yes, in fact up at camp david we do skeet shooting all the time. and i have a pro found respect for the traditions of hunting that trace back in this country for generations. gun rights advocates pointing out the president's campaign for new tougher gun laws were

right to the wharf, i get some sourdough and an anchor steam. >> really great. >> put that right on there. >> this one is really to come off. >> a little panini, smush it down. we are ready to go. here are some finished ones. >> we can't win a sandwich face-off if we don't -- >> what's going on in baltimore? >> blue smoke is a barbecue joint here in manhattan. we have a couple locations. this is baltimore barbecue. you can help me out. this is called tiger sauce, mayonnaise, horseradish, a little lemon juice, sour cream. whisk that together. here we have some beef. a nice kaiser roll. spread some tiger sauce on there. >> what kind of beef is this?
